Artist Statement
From earliest childhood my urges to explore and create were nurtured by my family and friends. Growing up by the ocean, traveling the world, and living now in the mountains and forest have instilled in me an intense love for the intricacies and radiance of the natural world. Whether in trees or water, animals or people, we are surrounded by light and color and it is my goal to reflect and capture this abundant wonder.
Primarily a painter, I have worked in a variety of media, including pottery, paper-making, pastels, watercolor, oils, acrylics, alcohol inks, gouache, jewelry-making, glass bead design, silk painting, mixed media and printmaking. I love to experiment with color and form, and to learn new techniques. Abstract shapes and forms intrigue me, but I also love representational work.
This show features enhanced monoprints. Each image is one of a kind. They began as single prints taken from gel plates or other surfaces. I then used pen and ink, watercolors, acrylics or gouache to add color or details, or to bring out forms and meanings that were hiding in the original. My goal is to transmit the radiance that my eyes perceive into a celebration on canvas or paper.
