DEEP WATER | Isaiah Jones

Deep Water

Isaiah Jones

22 April 2016 - 23 May 2016

Opening Reception Friday 22 April 2016, 5 - 8 pm

The waters of my home inspire me. I am constantly reading about The French Broad River or the creeks and streams that stretch themselves across the South East. Passages by Wilma Dykeman and Annie Dillard remind me that the forces of nature I encounter are miraculous and personal, that the quivering of leaves or the singing of a stream is the earth telling its secrets, begging of us our own secrets. I am moved deeply by the seemingly bottomless waters of the Ocean and falling rivers, moving forever downstream. My work seeks to explore these waters, divulging its secrets while comprehending and grasping its depths, currents, and its violent turbulence.

Isaiah Jones was raised in the mountains of western North Carolina. She received her BFA in Printmaking from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia in the fall of 2015. Jones works primarily with etching, monoprinting, and stenciling. Interested in the origin of water, her work explores the depth, movement, and geography of rivers, oceans, and streams. Her prints have been exhibited in galleries throughout Savannah, GA, Brevard, NC and are held in many private collections. Jones lives and works in Atlanta, GA, and is a current artist in residence at the Atlanta Printmakers Studio.
