Having called many places home, Ali Norman grew up in sunny Tampa, FL. She is currently a third-year graduate teaching assistant at the University of Georgia, where she is perusing her MFA in Printmaking and Book Arts. Blossoming from a love of process-oriented techniques; her passion for intaglio became a lifelong pursuit during her undergraduate studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design and has followed her throughout many cities.
In this body of work, automatic drawing is used as a form of journaling in an attempt to connect with the subconscious. Inspired by escapism and dreams, the lines of fantasy and reality are blurred with imagination and grounded with a scribe on copper. Through the use of traditional print media, I work to explore my own versions of reality and consciousness. Personal symbolism and storytelling allow me to create glimpses of a world formerly known only to myself.
